Recipe: Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients

  • 5¾ cup bread flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 3 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1½ cup raisins
  • Garnish: melted butter and sugar

Instructions

Step 1

Mix softened butter with dry ingredients. Add liquids and mix. Knead dough into a ball and deposit in greased 8-inch cake pan. distribute the dough evenly in the pan.

Step 2

Cut an "X" on the top of the dough (to release steam). Brush entire top with melted butter and sprinkle generously with sugar. Allow dough to sit for 10 minutes prior to baking.

Step 3

Bake for 40 minutes. Bread may be served warm or at room temperature.
