Ingredients

  • 2 cans of refrigerated biscuit dough (8-10 biscuits each)
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-4 Tbsp. milk
  • green, gold and purple colored sugar

Instructions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2

Open the refrigerated biscuit dough and separate into biscuits. Line them up to make a large rectangle - 4 biscuits across and 5 down is about right.

Step 3

Now take a piece of plastic wrap and place it over the biscuits. This just makes them easier to roll without sticking.

Step 4

Roll the biscuits together to form a single sheet of dough. Remove the plastic wrap.

Step 5

Now mix the cinnamon and sugar together.

Step 6

Brush the melted butter on the dough, leaving about 1/4 inch border all the way around. Sprinkle on the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Step 7

Now starting from the long end, roll the dough up, jellyroll fashion.

Step 8

Place the dough in a circle on an ungreased baking sheet. And pinch the edges to seal it.

Step 9

Now it's traditional to put a plastic baby in the king cake, and whoever gets that piece has to make the cake the next year. But I don't like the idea of baking with plastic, so I just add the baby at the end.

Step 10

Now bake the king cake in the preheated oven for 18-25 minutes, until golden brown.

Step 11

Meanwhile, make the glaze: Start by adding a few tablespoons of the milk to the powdered sugar. Mix it together, and keep adding milk until the glaze becomes a thick, but spoonable consistency. Like this.

Step 12

Now tuck the baby into the king cake. And spoon the glaze over the king cake as soon as it gets out of the oven - you want it to be warm. And sprinkle on the purple, green and gold colored sugar.

Step 13

And here's your easy king cake.
