Macaroni and Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 lb elbow macaroni
- 3-4 cups of grated sharp Cheddar cheese, or whatever
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme
- 1/4 tsp cayenne
- 1/8 tsp white pepper
- 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- pinch of nutmeg
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 3 cups milk
- 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs plus 1 tbsp butter
Instructions
Step 1
Add 1/4 cup butter into a sauce pan over medium heat.When it starts foaming bubble, add in 1/4 cup flour. Stir well.
Step 2
Then continue to add in1/4 tsp dried thyme,
1/4 tsp cayenne,
1/8 tsp white pepper. Stir well, cook for a minute.
Step 3
Then add in 3 cups milk. Bring it to a simmer over medium heat.Add pinch of grated nutmeg, 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp salt.
Simmer over med-low heat for 8 minutes. Stir often.
Step 4
Then turn off the heat. Add in most of grated sharp Cheddar cheese(just leave a little bit for later), 1 tsp Dijon mustard.Stir well.
Step 5
Boil Macaroni in salted water.
Step 6
Then transfer the Macaroni into a bake pan, Pour over the cheese sauce.For rich and gooey, use 8 ounces cheese sauce.
For light and luscious, use 16 ounces cheese sauce.
Distribute and stir well. Then add the remaining cheese and 1/2 cup Panko breadcrumbs plus 1 tbsp butter on the top.
