Recipe: Homemade Scone
Ingredients
- 8 ounces by weight all-purpose flour (about 1 3/4 cups)
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup dried currants
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 egg plus 1 tablespoon milk for the wash
Instructions
Step 1
Add 8 ounces all-purpose flour, 4 teaspoons baking powder, 1/8 teaspoon salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk well.
Step 2
Add 1/4 cup white sugar, 5 tablespoons unsalted butter( use ice-cold butter),Use a cutter to mix well. Tip: always split eights.
Step 3
Add 1/2 cup milk, and 1/3 cup dried currants. Use a fork to mix well.Transfer the mixture to a floured board. Make it into a square shape.
Make sure you have enough flour on you fingers and board to prevent from sticking.
Step 4
Fold the 2 sides in, make it into a rectangle shape. Use a knife to cut itinto 8 squares. Place them into a baking sheet. Brush the top of each square with egg and milk mixture.
