Ingredients

  • 6-8 baking apples - I used 2 Granny Smith, 2 Braeburn, 2 Fuji
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • very tiny pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ready to use pie dough (I used Pillsbury)

Instructions

Step 1

Peel the apples. Cut the apples into quarters, and take off the cores.
Slice each quarter into 4 pieces. Put the these pieces into a big bowl.
Add the juice of 1/2 lemon,
1 cup white sugar,
1/8 tsp nutmeg,
1/2 tsp cinnamon,
and a very tiny pinch of salt. Mix well.
Add 3 tbsp cornstarch in the bowl, mix well.

Step 2

Take a 9 inch pie dish. Place a dough in the dish, press in nicely.
Put the apple mixture in the dish, pour over its juice.
Separate 2 tbsp butter evenly, and dot on the apple slices.

Step 3

Cover it with another dough, and let the top dough fit in the inside of bottom one.
Go around and tuck in the top edge inside the bottom dough.
Roll the bottom edge across the top edge. Then use your fingers to press it down.

Step 4

Make a 'X' slash in the center of top dough. Make another 8 long slashes around the 'X' slash.
Brush the top dough with egg wash. Dust with some sugar.

Step 5

Bake the apple pie in an oven at 375F for 1 hour.

Step 6

Remove, cool before server.
