Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into thin slices
  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk

Instructions

Step 1

Add 2 cups all-purpose flour,
2 teaspoons baking powder,
1/4 teaspoon baking soda into a mixing bowl. Mix well.

Step 2

Add 7 tablespoons unsalted butter in the bowl, use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into thin slices.
Keep doing that for 6-7 minutes until mix well.
Make a hole in the centre of the mixture, then dump in 3/4 cup cold buttermilk in the hole.
Use a spatula to move around and mix well.

Step 3

Dump the mixture on a working board. Make it into a rectangle shape.
Then fold in the thirds, like folding a letter. Press it out.
Repeat that for 3 times.

Step 4

Then use a wood roller to roll the dough into 1/2 inch thick. Use a round cutter to cut it into small round pieces.
Place the round pieces on a mat. Use your thumb to press in the centre of each piece. Brush the top side with buttermilk.

Step 5

Bake them in an oven at 425F for 15 minutes.
