Recipe: Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 7 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into thin slices
- 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
Instructions
Step 1
Add 2 cups all-purpose flour,2 teaspoons baking powder,
1/4 teaspoon baking soda into a mixing bowl. Mix well.
Step 2
Add 7 tablespoons unsalted butter in the bowl, use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into thin slices.Keep doing that for 6-7 minutes until mix well.
Make a hole in the centre of the mixture, then dump in 3/4 cup cold buttermilk in the hole.
Use a spatula to move around and mix well.
Step 3
Dump the mixture on a working board. Make it into a rectangle shape.Then fold in the thirds, like folding a letter. Press it out.
Repeat that for 3 times.
Step 4
Then use a wood roller to roll the dough into 1/2 inch thick. Use a round cutter to cut it into small round pieces.Place the round pieces on a mat. Use your thumb to press in the centre of each piece. Brush the top side with buttermilk.
